I heard it last night on the news and during the UF/USC telecast. I just Googled it and that was the first article I found. I'm not a big TMZ fan either. ;)

From ESPN....
Bill Bell, a Mississippi State booster and former player at the school, told the NCAA he received a text message from a man claiming to represent Cam Newton's father that outlined a payment plan designed to bring the quarterback to Mississippi State, according to ESPN.com. Bell said he also shared a series of voice mail messages from former teammate Kenny Rogers with the NCAA last week. Bell said Cecil Newton never specifically asked him for money, but that Newton was present during three-way calls in which Rogers discussed a pay-for-play scheme. Bell told the NCAA that a text from Rogers included a request for $80,000 the day after Cam Newton signed his letter-of-intent with Mississippi State, $50,000 after 30 days and another $50,000 30 days later. Cecil Newton could not be reached for comment on this report.

No where in it does it state that any of Cam's family directly asked for anything. All it does state is that 3 MSU ALUMNI discussed a payment plan to get Cam to MSU. If that's all they have, they don't have anything..end of story. Seems to me some former MSU players wanted Cam more than Cam wanted MSU..and are more than a little pi$$ed that didn't happen. Awfully convenient that the phone with the alleged texts was destoyed by water damage..they ain't got jack. Just some jokers hoping to pull a Phil Fulmer..
Let's just let Cam be Cam and the money will take care of itself, or in this case one's family. I don't know who or what to believe but always remember the guy who got Reggie Bush in trouble was a convicted felon, and the people at MSU seem like they are sincere or sincerely ****ed that they didn't get Cam Newton but always remember boys and girls the longer the story the less believable it is.
Auburn looks like they are getting ready to get in some serious trouble. Newtons are dirty. I tried to give them the benifit of the doubt but it is starting to become pretty clear this is one big mess. FBI involvment now. Auburn's history. Same people still there that where there during the Pat Dye and Eric Ramsey days.
Read this. I know it is a message board. But it makes alot of sense. I am not saying it is all true but if only part is Auburn could be in big, big, trouble..... It is a long read....
As the Plains Burn......(Updated 11-17) - SEC Football - TigerDroppings.com
Dang, that took some time.
I've said it once and I'll say it again Auburn is dirty and has been for a while. Let's just wait and see but I wonder if Dan Mullen and MSU will be treated like Phil Fulmer and UT in Alabama. All Phil done was turn in a cheater and it looks like MSU turned in a cheater too. The plot thickens.
From this it would make sense that the FBI could have actually notified the NCAA before Miss. St. They had Mcgregor wiretaped for the last year. That info would have been withheld till his indictment came down. Lowder the other one , who is the guy most people see as the most powerfull man at Auburn, is also under investigation with Bank he was CEO at, for misuse of TARP money, embezzelment, Money laundering. A whole host of things.
It would all make sense if they had info in these recordings. Which isn't to far of a reach.
Somebody clearly paid Cecil. If not how did the church get fixed? Explain it... No one has or no one can. I believe it is no one wants to.
let's not go there. these are two completely different scenarios, nothing alike at all.
best bet is to leave it at that instead of ruining this thread.
Something big is going down, but im still not sure I believe everything coming out of Starkville.
But if Auburn is in deep, I promise Bobby Lowder is right in the thick of things.
its also worth mentioning that some info being reported is wrong.
Bond did not meet with Rogers like was initially reported. On the radio, Bond said that he did not directly talk with Rogers and that there were at least two people between them in the chain of information. So its impossible for Rogers to have solicited money directly from Bond.
I am not sure why the FBI would be involved with what happened at Miss. St if it didn't involve Mcgregor and Lowder at Auburn. I mean if this was only about kids getting payed to play football it wouldn't be the first time it has happened. I have never heard of the FBI being involved in those cases before.
But you throw in Mcgregor who is being indicted on buying votes thing and all his gambling ties. Then Lowder who is reportedly being investigated for misuse of Tarp money, and all the other stuff from his banks collaspe. To me the only reason the FBI would be getting with Miss. St. is to confirm what they already think was happening and then go back to question people at Auburn. Hoping they could flip some smaller people into spilling the beans on the Lowder and Mcgregor group.
I don't think anyone knows how this is going to turn out but I don't think it is very unreasonable to think it involves so high ups from Auburn. If you look at everything out there that is the only thing that really makes sense right now....
Rogers talked with Bell about the payment to Newton. Bell is reported to have told Bond to make sure Athlectic department at Miss. St. knew about this. I am sure NCAA will check phone records. They love phone records. Ask coach Pearl.....
Rogers, Bell, Bond, Miss. St. coaching staff, athlectic department, all knew about this. Coaches at Miss. St. said Newton brought it up to them at meeting with them and kenny rogers was there. Joe Schad reported that.
Also if FBI wanted text to Bell Superbeast mentioned. They should have no problem getting that from the service provider. There will be a record of it.
I understand that a subpeona has been put in by a judge to speed up the process for the wireless provider to retrieve the "lost" text messages.
I just posted that because it was initially reported by ESPN and other places that Bond talked directly to Rogers but Bond denied that.
but yeah, I believe it all comes back to the wiretaps from the financial investigations into Lowder, Colonial Bank and the Awwbarn BOT. Most likely they have caught some of these big AU boosters talking about money and players.
People always gave Logan Young a hard time, but he was NOTHING like Bobby Lowder.
Anybody remember the old Southwest Conference when at one time five of the eight schools were on probation. I hope this isn't going there. This is getting like an onion the more you peel the more layers there are.
ah the old SWC.
that was Arkansas, SMU, Oklahoma, Texas, Baylor, Ok. State, Rice, Southwestern, Houston, TCU and aTm.
if people think the SEC is bad, the SWC was 100x worse.
at least in the SEC we try to hide our cheating, the SWC was so arrogant they didnt even attempt to hide it
they tried to get LSU and Ole Miss at one time as well, but they stayed in the SEC.
Ah! those were the days when cheating wasn't reported it was bragged about.
